As an educator, I’ve observed hundreds of classrooms in many states and seen students from various backgrounds. Home economics, race and educational background pose a large spectrum of student profiles in the classroom. When all these factors are placed in the same environment at the same time, it can present a challenge to all. A challenge that’s magnified when effectiveness rests with the responsibility of a single person. Jobs are lost and given up because of the stress one places on themselves or is placed on them by others.
How does one operate successfully in this complex environment? Is there a way to navigate through the maze without losing one’s sanity? The answer is YES! There’s a logical, apparent answer to this perplexing problem – a shared responsibility with all parties involved. Each stakeholder has a responsibility and must take ownership of their actions. The key lies in the development of a working RELATIONSHIP that allows all to be RESPECTED.
Let’s look at keys to the development of relationships that allow for a positive and productive environment and how to change the NEGATIVES to POSITIVES.
